Strike a pose at FGCU’s new logo photo op

Florida Gulf Coast University students, alumni, faculty and staff have a striking new photo op for sharing Eagle pride in a big way — literally.

The FGCU logo — rendered in aluminum letters 5 feet high and painted the school colors of cobalt blue and emerald green — was unveiled Sept. 25 as a new landmark on the lawn at the heart of campus. The letters stand atop a foot-high platform in one of the paver circles connected to concrete paths threading around the popular gathering space. Located between the Veterans Pavilion and the Career & Exploratory Advising Service building, the spot offers a photo backdrop including Academic Building 9/The Water School and a tree-lined pond.

The addition creates another signature setting for students, alumni and visitors to the Fort Myers campus to connect to FGCU and celebrate campus traditions through social media snapshots.

Other popular photo spots at FGCU include the soaring eagle statue outside Alico Arena and the bronze Azul statue in the Alumni Legacy Plaza outside the Cohen Student Union.

The lawn installation was planned as part of the university’s continuing rollout of its redesigned institutional logo launched in December 2022.

The new branding resulted from an almost yearlong effort involving representatives from across the university and voting by more than 7,000 constituents affiliated with FGCU.

“As FGCU continues to evolve, the university needed a logo that captures its youth and vitality, distinguishes it from its peers and competitors, and generates pride and a connection to the university among all members of the FGCU community,” says Alice Wheelwright, associate vice president of University Marketing & Communications.

In recent weeks, the monuments at the main campus entrance have been updated with the new, bolder logo. Revised signage continues to be installed across university properties to create a unified visual identity, reflect campus pride and enhance wayfinding.
