Wings Up Women supports female student-athletes

1 - minute read

FGCU Athletics held its first-ever Wings Up Women’s Networking Night at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Alico Arena Hospitality Suite.

Held in conjunction with the volleyball team’s game that evening, the event was designed for networking with FGCU student-athletes, community members and professional leaders. Professionals from the health and fitness, public relations, business and technical services fields were in attendance.

Wings Up Women serves female student-athletes by raising funds to reach and sustain NCAA full-scholarship limits for each of the Eagles’ nine women’s teams. The organization was launched last spring with a luncheon.

“That event was extremely successful, and we’re now looking to expand with this networking event,” said Eagles Club & Special Events Coordinator Allison Bass. “It is a great opportunity for our female student-athletes to meet and interact with supporters, community members and professionals, and it’s nice for those people to get to know our student-athletes.”

In addition to scholarship and revenue enhancement, Wings Up Women was created to help maintain the outstanding levels of Eagles’ achievements academically and athletically, and to encourage investing in future generations of FGCU female student-athletes.
