FGCU rises in annual US News ranking

Florida Gulf Coast University has risen in the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking of Best Regional Universities. FGCU jumped from No. 87 last year to tie for No. 80 in the South category of the annual list. Scores were based on 2014 data and reflect indicators such as student retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Among the 2014 statistics cited in the ranking:

  • Average freshman retention rate: 76%
  • Classes with 50 or more students: 16%
  • Student-faculty ratio: 23:1
  • Acceptance rate: 58.9%

FGCU also tied for No. 38 among Top Public Schools and No. 58 among Best Colleges for Veterans, both in the South category of the magazine’s 2016 ranking of Best Regional Universities.
