The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team made program history April 23, winning its first ASUN Championship and punching a ticket to the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship Regionals.
At the center of it all was Sebastian Gamboa, who became the first Eagle to win the ASUN individual championship since Van Holmgren in 2021.
The Eagles will find out their regional destination when the men’s golf selection show airs May 6. Tournament play begins May 18.
They captured the ASUN title in dominant fashion at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia, closing with a final round 3-under to finish at 15-under — 11 strokes clear of second-place Stetson University.
As a team across 54 holes, FGCU finished with 55 birdies, tied for the third most in the field, and led all teams with 164 pars while recording the fewest bogeys in the championship field.
Gamboa, a junior from Merida, Mexico, finished at 12-under for the tournament to claim medalist honors, while Sacha Ruiz surged two spots up the leaderboard in the final round to finish as the individual runner-up at 9-under. Nolan Harper climbed nine spots to finish in a tie for 17th at 2-over, and Brett Moore and Christian Figueredo each finished in a tie for 38th at 7-over.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this team,” said head coach Andrew Danna. “All the hard work and preparation they put into this paid off. It’s a great day to be an Eagle.”
