Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) President Mike Martin has added Aysegul Timur to his leadership team as the assistant vice president of strategic initiatives, strategy and program innovation. Timur worked at Hodges University for the last 20 years, most recently serving as dean of the Johnson School of Business and senior vice president of academic affairs. She started at FGCU in April.

“Dr. Timur brings not only great expertise to our team but extremely strong connections across this region,” Martin said. “She is especially highly regarded by business and community leaders.”

In her new position, Timur will develop innovative services and experiences that drive improved academic performance for students. She will increase interaction with private and public entities to expand the impact of FGCU in Southwest Florida and across the state.

“Those of us who reside in Southwest Florida and countless students, families and employers have all benefited from professor Timur’s relentless pursuit of improving the efficacy of higher education,” said Ed Morton, a member of the Florida State University System Board of Governors and former chair of the FGCU Board of Trustees. “Her commitment to excellence and keen insight into when and where higher education might improve the quality of life in our community is without equal. She is a wonderful addition to an already excellent FGCU team.”

Timur, who will also work with FGCU’s Regional Economic Research Institute, is recognized in Southwest Florida for proficiency in business policy and organizational development, quality control, statistics for strategic planning, health and international economics. She is a go-to expert for workforce development and was recently honored by the Florida College Access Network as one of its first Workforce Education Innovators.

“I have had the pleasure of working closely with Dr. Timur on many educational and community endeavors,” said J. Dudley Goodlette, former chair of the FGCU Board of Trustees. “Her thoughtful analysis and input are always invaluable. Indeed, it is great to have Dr. Timur on the FGCU team.”

In addition to her work at FGCU, Timur is a member of multiple organizations, including the Southwest Florida FutureMakers Coalition, WorkforceNow Research, Leadership Collier Foundation, the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce and the Uncommon Friends Foundation.

“I am very excited to be part of the FGCU family and contribute to The FGCU Effect in the region and the state,” said Timur. “I look forward to working with the FGCU team, along with business and community members, to further develop strategic initiatives and innovative educational partnerships for students of FGCU and work toward Southwest Florida’s workforce development, educational and economic success.”
