5 share annual honors for outstanding student-athletes

1 - minute read

FGCU Athletics has honored five Eagles for their achievements as student-athletes in 2014-15.

Emma Svensson, Tabby Tindell and Whitney Knight share the title of Most Outstanding Female Student-Athlete, while Jordi Vives and Nick Rivera are co-winners of the Most Outstanding Male Student-Athlete Award.

It’s the second-straight year that co-winners for each gender have been recognized, and also the most ever honored in a single year in the history of the awards.

Vives, a native of Spain who graduated last spring, is the first man in FGCU Athletics history to receive the award twice. Tindell became the first women’s soccer player to win the award after years of softball and basketball players dominating.

The awards honor the best student-athletes for the previous academic year. They have been presented since 2002-03 — FGCU’s first year as an NCAA member (Division I since 2007-08).

The season past brought FGCU nine conference regular-season or postseason championships and several individual records.
