Renaissance Academy launches literary digest

1 - minute read

Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy in Punta Gorda has launched a new literary magazine showcasing local writers.

Members of the academy’s “Success Camp for Writers” course are featured in the premiere issue of The Punta Gorda Literary Digest, which was unveiled in April at a special publication party at FGCU’s Punta Gorda Herald Court location.

Participating students featured in Volume I are: Anne Gilley, Joan Cook, Bob Mudge, Beverly Bukkhegyi, Stuart Wagner, Irwin Schinkel, Diane B. Corriveau, the Rev. Amy Kindred, Jonathan Fry, Mercedes Martell, Roger Strahan, Stan Kapucynski, Dennis Kirk, Nyisha Haynes, Larry Coglan and William Taylor.

Herald Court Centre Program Assistant Nancy Staub said plans call for publishing The Punta Gorda Literary Digest quarterly, and the next installment should come out in July.

“As we learned from sharing a previous collection of students’ works, both authors and the public are very interested in reading their work,” Staub said.

Some of their published pieces are excerpts from upcoming novels – offering a taste of what’s to come. “Success Camp for Writers” was taught by book James Abraham, publisher and editor of Book-broker Publishers of Florida.

Copies of the magazine are available at the academy’s downtown Punta Gorda campus, 117 Herald Court #211. You can also download a PDF here: http://bit.ly/1K21X4g
