For the first time, Florida Gulf Coast University kicked off the hype train for the upcoming basketball seasons outdoors. The Basketball Block Party took place Oct. 26 at the Recreation Outdoor Center.
The FGCU men’s and women’s teams were introduced to the student body with a smoke-filled introduction.
Students were able to pick up their Dirty Bird T-shirts for the upcoming basketball campaigns, with DJ MDot from the NBA’s Miami Heat sending music through the area to pump up the crowd.
“Bringing it outside to the ROC was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” said Shane Pellegrine, assistant director of athletics marketing and promotions.
“The environment was perfect, the weather was perfect and having MDot back was the icing on the cake. We are already thinking about how we can make this new tradition even better next year.”
The Eagle women tip off the season Nov. 6 at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The men start Nov. 7 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
