New brand campaign reflects The FGCU Effect

FGCUEffectImage-640Florida Gulf Coast University has launched a new brand campaign, The FGCU Effect, which will be integrated into marketing and communications efforts throughout the institution.

The FGCU Effect describes how the university transforms students by challenging their minds and engaging their hearts. In turn, graduates leave FGCU empowered to change lives, change their communities, maybe even change the world. “Inspiring those who then inspire others” is a key component of the brand mantra.

“The FGCU Effect absolutely captures my FGCU experience as a student, and it hits what prospective students care about,” said Lauren Schuetz, an FGCU graduate who now works as an undergraduate recruiter for Admissions.

The concept plays on “the butterfly effect,” the metaphorical theory that one small change in a situation can influence or amplify an outcome somewhere else in the world.

The brand idea originated within the University Marketing and Communications (UMC) team, which conducted months of research, creative brainstorming and concept testing. But the campaign’s direction was guided by the entire university community. Team members consulted dozens of administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, high school guidance counselors and prospective students. They drew on the research and recommendations of Neustadt Creative Marketing’s 2014 commissioned study as well as those of a Marketing Collaboration Team at FGCU.

Unveiled Thursday, Aug. 13 during FGCU’s annual Welcome Back Celebration for faculty and staff, The FGCU Effect will first appear in print and digital materials that UMC has produced for the Office of Admissions to distribute to prospective students.
