“Be one with the ball.” You could imagine a soccer coach saying that to nervous players about to shoot penalty kicks to break a tied match. But literally, that’s the idea behind bubble soccer, the latest recreational sport catching on at college campuses across the nation.
FGCU students had a ball with it Oct. 23 on the basketball court of Alico Arena. Covered from their heads to their knees in giant plastic bubbles, teams of students ran, rolled, collided and bounced around as they tried to kick a standard soccer ball into a small net.
