480 graduate during summer commencement

Florida Gulf Coast University expects to graduate 480 students during its summer commencement at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 31, at Alico Arena. Doors open for guests at 8 a.m.

FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw confers all degrees in the university’s five academic colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, Lutgert College of Business, College of Education, College of Health Professions and Social Work and U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering. FGCU has conferred more than 23,000 degrees since opening in fall 1997.

The commencement ceremony lasts approximately two hours and will be streamed live here beginning at 9 a.m..

FGCU Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. J. Michael Rollo will give the commencement address. Rollo joined the FGCU staff as the first vice president for Student Affairs in July 2006. Before his arrival, he served for 27 years in various roles in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Florida, including two years as the interim vice president. He received a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida. In addition, he holds a Specialist in Counselor Education, a Master’s in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, all from the University of Florida.

Balloons and loud noisemakers are prohibited in Alico Arena and will not be allowed inside during the commencement ceremony.
